Tomahawks vs Titans Series Preview (10/8-10/9)

Written by: David Nicoletti

After an amazing 10th home opener last weekend against the Maryland Black Bears at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA @ Cambria County War Memorial, the Johnstown Tomahawks are right back at it this weekend, as they travel to Middletown Ice Arena in Middletown Township for a two-game series against the New Jersey Titans.

Game One Puck Drop: 7:30 p.m. | Game Two Puck Drop: 7 p.m.

New Jersey comes into this series after playing one game last weekend at home against Maryland. The Titans ended the first period leading the game 2-1 with goals from forwards Jake LaRusso, and Tommy Bannister. However, it wouldn’t stop Maryland from scoring two goals in the second, stealing the win from New Jersey with a 3-2 final score. Andrew Takacs (G) faced 42 shots in net for the Titans, stopping 39 of them.

Johnstown rolls into New Jersey fresh off an opening night win against the Black Bears. It was a back-and-forth contest all night with both teams exchanging goal after goal. Forwards Holt Oliphant and Stephen Kyrkostas (2) would score, as it was 3-3 with both teams needing OT. The extra five was not enough, so a shootout was needed. In the end, Zachary Murray (F) and Kyrkostas would score the only goals in two rounds, as the Hawks took the 4-3 win.
