Tomahawks vs. Nordiques Series Preview (10/15-10/16)

After splitting a two-game road series last weekend, the Johnstown Tomahawks are back in town. This weekend they will welcome in the Maine Nordiques at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA for a two-game series this Friday and Saturday.

Game One Puck Drop: 7:30 p.m. | Game Two Puck Drop: 7 p.m.

The Maine Nordiques come into Johnstown after taking a week off to recharge. Their last set of games were back on October 1st-2nd, where the Nords swept the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks at home. Both games were very close, as Maine won each game; 4-3 and 5-4, respectively.

Forward Aidan Connolly walked out of game one with two goals and an assist. Forward Tyler Gaulin tallied an apple in each of Maine’s four goals. In game two, forward Tristan Fasig picked up two goals, along with one assist. Forward captain Caden Pattison picked up two assists, and Belov picked up a goal and two assists. Goaltenders Avery Sturtz (Friday | 38/41), and Gus Holt (Saturday | 47/51) each picked up wins in net for the Nordiques.

As mentioned for Johnstown, they come into this series after splitting two-games against the New Jersey Titans last weekend. Game one ended in an impressive 7-1 win for Johnstown. Forward Jake Black walked out with two goals and one assist. While forwards David Matousek, Stephen Kyrkostas, and Cole Bianchin each picked up two assists.

Game two ended in the complete opposite way for the Tomahawks, as New Jersey walked away with a 3-1 victory, earning a split in the series. Jake Black would score the lone goal on the power-play for Johnstown, with defensemen Dusty Geregach, and forward Sean Ramsay picking up assists. For New Jersey, forwards Michael Young (one goal, one assist), and Rocco Testa-Basi (two assists) picked up two points in the game.

Jake Black: Eight Game Points Streak (seven goals, five assists) since 2021-09-16

Tomahawks forward Jake Black was named East Divisions’ 2nd Star of the Week in this week's edition of Bauer's Stars of the Week. The Hawks leading scorer last weekend in the two-game series put up three goals and an assist. As seen above, the 5’11” right handed shooter's points streak extended to eight games, a league ranked 3rd for 2020-21.


Last week, Tomahawks captain and forward Holt Oliphant announced his commitment to play NCAA Division I hockey at Air Force Academy. The second-year Hawk this season has put up seven points (three goals, four assists) in nine games. Last season in 53 games, the 5’10” right handed shooter lit the lamp 12 times, and tallied 19 assists, averaging a plus 12 on the ice.

The native of Northbrook, Illinois now joins Jacob Badal (Western Michigan University), Braedon Ford (Miami University), T.J. Koufis (University of Wisconsin), and Jared Lambright (St. Lawrence University) as Hawks from this years’ team who have committed to DI universities.

This Saturday is Domestic Violence Awareness Night at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA. Prior to the game, the Tomahawks will be wearing specialty purple warm-up jerseys. Afterwards, all jerseys will be autographed and auctioned off on DASH, with a starting bid of $60. Proceeds from these jerseys will benefit Victim Services, Inc.
