Written by: David Nicoletti
After a six-game homestand at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA, and with the 2021 NAHL Robertson Cup Playoffs just right around the corner, the Johnstown Tomahawks have seven games remaining on the year. This week they will be on the road for the final time in 2020-21, playing three of those seven games at Danbury Ice Arena in Danbury, Connecticut against the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks.
This weekend in Danbury will host the fifth, sixth, and seventh match-up between the two teams. The last time these two teams met was back on March 5th-6th, where Johnstown traveled to Danbury for the two-game series. The Hawks would take a 4-1 game one victory over the Jr. Tricks. Following that up in game two with a 3-2 overtime win to sweep the series.
The Jr. Hat Tricks comes into this series after splitting a two-game series with the Maryland Black Bears earlier this week on April 26th-27th. Forward Branden Piku and goaltender Michael Morelli would help Maryland defeat Danbury in game one 1-0. Game two the following day would come down to the final wire, legitimately, as Danbury defenseman Adam Shuchart would score in the final second of the third period to lead Danbury to a 3-2 win over Maryland, forcing the split in the series.
Johnstown comes into this series after also taking a split in a two-game series, this one would be against the Maine Nordiques last weekend on April 23rd-24th. Forward Stefan Owens would put up two goals for the Nords and help lead Maine to a game one win over Johnstown 4-1. The following night would be a different story, as forwards William Persson and Will Margel would help lead Johnstown to a 2-0 shutout win against Maine, forcing the split in the series. Goaltender Sam Evola would gain his third shutout of the year, stopping all 37 shots he faced.

Congratulations to Tomahawks goaltender Sam Evola who was mentioned in this week's NAHL Stars of the Week as an honorable mention for his shutout performance against the Maine Nordiques last Saturday, April 24th. The Rochester, Michigan native would go on to stop all 37 shots he faced in the Tomahawks 2-0 win over Maine. Making unbelievable saves all night and gaining his third shutout of the season, his first since New Years Day 2021 against the Northeast Generals at an empty 1ST SUMMIT ARENA. Congrats Sam!!
