Tomahawks Host Black Bears in 2021-22 Home Opener - Weekend Preview
Written by: David Nicoletti
After a disappointing weekend on the road against the Northeast Generals, the Johnstown Tomahawks look to get back in the win column tonight as they host the Maryland Black Bears for their 10th home opener in franchise history.
Puck Drop: 7 p.m.
Maryland comes into Johnstown after taking a quick pit stop in Middletown Township to take on the New Jersey Titans for a one game tilt last night. They’d steal a 3-2 win on the road, defensemen Philip Tornqvist, and forwards Vlad Polegoshko, and Dylan Wegner would pick up the goals for Maryland. Goaltender Michael Morelli would pick up the win.
Johnstown comes into this game after taking a two game sweep last weekend against the Northeast Generals. They’d take a 5-1 loss in game one last Friday, followed by a 6-3 loss in game two the following night. Jake Black (F) walked out of that series scoring a goal in each game. Sean Ramsey (F) walked out of Attleboro with a three-point weekend, scoring one goal and two assists.

Former two-year Tomahawks defensemen Alex Jaeckle (2013-15) signed a contract with the ECHL’s Florida Everblades for the 2021-22 season. This will be Jaeckle’s third ECHL team as he heads into his second professional season. The Michigan native’s last season would be back in 2019-20, as he would miss the entire 2020-21 season due to his team at the time (the Adirondack Thunder) not playing due to COVID-19.
Alex would take part in 33 games for the Norfolk Admirals, before being traded to the Adirondack Thunder midway through the season, where Jaeckle would play 21 games. For the Admirals, he scored three goals and tallied five assists, while only tallying one assist with the Thunder.
