Tomahawks Head to Maryland Looking for Second Straight Sweep

Written by: David Nicoletti

After a two game series between the two clubs at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA, the Johnstown Tomahawks and Maryland Black Bears are back at it again for another two-game series. This time, this series will shift both teams to the Piney Orchard Ice Arena in Odenton, Maryland. Puck drop is for Saturday, February 20th at 6:40 pm, and Sunday, February 21st at 12 pm.

This will be the eighth and ninth meeting between the two teams this season. Johnstown currently holds a 4-2-1-0 record against the Black Bears in 2020-21. Maryland this year so far holds a 3-2-2-0 record against the Tomahawks.

As mentioned earlier, both these two teams met at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA in downtown Johnstown last weekend. Game one on February 12th would see a tie game early in the second period. But it wouldn’t take long for the Hawks to score two unanswered goals from Holt Oliphant and John Gelatt for the Hawks to walk out of game one winning 3-1.

Game two would see a physical match-up between both sides. But early goals from Alex Gritz and TJ Koufis would have Johnstown sweeping the Black Bears at a 2-1 final score, remaining undefeated at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA.
