Still Undefeated This Season At Home, Johnstown Ready to Host Northeast For Three Games

After a weekend sweep at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA against the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks, the Johnstown Tomahawks are back at home this weekend for a three game series. The Hawks will welcome the Northeast Generals on January 29th, 30th, and 31st. Puck drops are scheduled for 7:30 pm on Friday, 7 pm on Saturday, and 1 pm on Sunday.

This will be the teams third series against each other, second series between the two teams at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA, and the fifth, sixth, and seventh time the two teams will play each other this season. Johnstown currently leads the season series over Northeast with a record of 3-0-1-0, Northeast holds a series record of 1-3-0-0.

The last time these two teams met were a month ago on December 31st, and January 1st. The Tomahawks outscored the Generals 14-0 that entire series. Taking home a 8-0 win on New Years Eve, followed by a 6-0 win on New Years.

The Generals come into this series after splitting a two game series on the road last Saturday and Sunday against the New Jersey Titans. After a back-and-forth contest at Middletown Ice World Arena for game one, New Jersey would walk away with a 3-2 win in overtime. Northeast would then respond the following day, walking out of New Jersey and splitting the two game series with a 6-3 win over the Titans.

Johnstown comes into this weekend after a physical match-up against the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks. A Jay Ahearn hat-trick and a Matt McQuade two-goal night would give Johnstown game one at a 5-4 final. Responding again the following day with three unanswered goals in the third period to give the Tomahawks the weekend sweep at a final score of 5-3.


The Tomahawks currently sit second place in the East Division with a 13-4-2-1 record and 29 points. Trailing the first place Maine Nordiques by only two points.

Forward Jay Ahearn, after a three points weekend last weekend against Danbury, is now the Hawks leader in points. Ahearn so far in 20 games this season has 28 points (14 goals & assists). He is also tied with forward John Gelatt as the team leader in goals. Ahearn sits fifth place in the NAHL in points, as well as him and Gelatt in a four way tie for first in the NAHL in goals.

Forward Brendan Clark still sits on top as the team leader in assists. The Brown University commit added two more assists to his season resume last weekend, bringing his total to 20 assists out of his 26 points in 20 games this year. He sits third place in the NAHL in assists.

Goaltender Sam Evola still sits as the Tomahawks best goaltender coming into this weekend. Evola with 790 minutes in net, currently holds a 9-2-1-1 record, along with a 2.13 GAA, and a 0.920 save percentage. He sits fourth in the NAHL in GAA, and ninth in save percentage.


The Generals currently sit fifth place in the East Division with a 8-14-3-0 record and 19 points. Trailing the fourth place New Jersey Titans by only two points.

Forwards Liam McCanney and Aidan Curran currently sit on top as the Generals leading scorers. Both former East Division Stars of the Week, McCanney and Curran are tied with a team leading 20 points.

McCanney leads the Gens in goals with 12, while University of New Hampshire committed Curren, leads the team in assists with 18. Liam currently sits seventh in the NAHL in goals, while Aidan sits in a three way tie for third in the NAHL in assists.

Goaltender Hugo Hass sits as the Generals best goaltender heading into this weekend. The Czech Republic native with 891 minutes in net, holds a 5-7-3-0 record, along with a 3.10 GAA, and a 0.923 save percentage. Hass’s save percentage currently sits him seventh in the NAHL, while his minutes played sits him ninth.

Sunday, January 31st, 2021 at 1:00pm - Use 28th GAME VOUCHER (inside your season ticket packet). STH must turn in the voucher for a ticket at the office or will call table on Sunday.

Additional tickets can be purchased through the office or at the door. All tickets will be $10.

Gates will open one hour before puck drop. Due to continued COVID-19 restrictions, limited seating is available. If possible, please purchase your tickets before arriving at the arena this weekend.

Johnstown Generals Hockey

Before game two of the Hawks verses Gens take place on Saturday, the Johnstown Generals will be in action at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA to take on the visiting Pittsburgh Warthogs for a 4 pm puck drop. Prior to the game, there will be a dedication of Section 22 within the War Memorial, to bring awareness to veteran suicide. A donation will grant you admission to the game.
