Local Veteran Hockey Team Needs a Few Assists to Reach Their Goal
written by: David Nicoletti
Did you know there's a veteran hockey team who plays at 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial? Did you know they go by the name, the Johnstown Generals?
The Johnstown Generals are a veteran hockey team with members from multiple branches of the United States Military. The extended sense of brotherhood helps transition team members from the battlefield to civilian life, using hockey to assist with the process.
So far, the Generals have played a couple of scrimmage games at 1st Summit Arena. These games tend to take place during the evenings on the weekdays. Their last scrimmage was last Thursday (September 10, 2020) where the Generals took on the Johnstown Guns.
The Generals next scrimmage will be held on Wednesday September 16th, where they will once again take on the Guns at the War Memorial. Puck drop is set for around 8:20pm.
The Generals are in need of some help and hope the local community can help them reach their fundraising goals. Chad Burnosky, leader of the team, has organized a fundraiser for the Johnstown Generals hockey team. He stated the following in the description of the team's GoFundMe page:
“We ask for your support to raise additional funds to help pay for ice rentals and any future games/tournament costs. The Generals hold an annual Veteran's Day game, in conjunction with our local NAHL Johnstown Tomahawks, and also travel to several tournaments within our region that benefit other veteran and law enforcement teams. Thank you in advance for any donations, and we hope to see you at our future events.”
You can visit the team's GoFundMe page to donate, learn more, and watch them race towards their final goal.
