LMHL Playoffs - Day Five - A Champion Crowned

Written by: David Nicoletti

Tonight is the night ladies and gentlemen, its championship Thursday at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA. As the #1 Bishop McCort Crushers, take on the #2 Westmont Hilltop Hilltoppers.

Before the LMHL Championship took place, we would see a great middle school championship game take place between the #1 Bishop McCort Crushers versus the #3 Richland Rams. McCort would outshoot Richland 19-1 after two periods, as the score would be on their side 3-0. Richland would then attempt a comeback for the ages but would fall short 7-5 against McCort. The final shots on goal would be 33-10 for the Crushers.

The first period in our varsity championship game between McCort and Westmont would see a mixture of physical, intense, back-and-forth, fast pace hockey. It would be McCort with the upper advantage after 17 minutes, as it would be 2-1 in favor of them. Adis Ultanbekov and Demian Tychenko would get the goals for McCort, as well as the assists. Westmont’s Peyton Sell would get the goal for his squad, as shots on goal would be 13-8 for the Crushers.

McCort’s Bryce Bair would add one late in the second period for the Crushers to go up 3-1 on Westmont after two periods. Tychenko and Ilya Zhdanov would get the assists, as shots on goal after 34 minutes were 22-11 for Bishop McCort.

Westmont would add one midway through the third period from the stick of Aiden Rice, making it a 3-2 game. Assists would go to Nick Rozich and Colin Gorman. However, it wouldn’t be enough for Westmont, as Bishop McCort would take the LMHL Championship. Final shots on goal would be 33-17 for McCort.

Congratulations to Bishop McCort Crushers on winning both the LMHL middle school and varsity championship.
