Johnstown Tomahawks vs. Northeast Generals - Series Preview (3/5-3/6)

We are heading into the homestretch of this 2021-22 season, and up next for the Tomahawks is a pair of weekend road games. After their three week homestand drew close last weekend, Johnstown will now hit the road for a two-game series in Attleboro, Massachusetts against the Northeast Generals.


Game One Puck Drop : 7 p.m. | Game Two Puck Drop 4 p.m.


Since February 20th to this past Wednesday, the Northeast Generals took on the Maine Nordiques for the team's past three games. The first game on Feb 20 saw the Generals fall to the Nordiques at a final score of 3-2.


GAME ONE STATS


The second game on Feb 28 saw an interesting contest from start to finish. A close race to the end forced OT for both squads, after a tied 6-6 score after 60 minutes. The game then went to a shootout. as extra time wasn't enough. From there, after being down 4-2 early in the game, Generals forwards David Andreychuk, and Ryan Gordon scored the lone goals for Northeast out of two rounds, taking home the 7-6 win over Maine.


GAME TWO STATS


The third and final game this past Wednesday saw once again another tight close race to the finish. Going into the third, each team put up one goal each in the game's first two frames, making the score 2-2. But with just near five minutes remaining in regulation, Gordon buried his second of the game, as well as the game winner for Northeast. Taking the game at a final score of 3-2.


GAME THREE STATS


Johnstown comes into this series after a three-gamer at home against the Maryland Black Bears. Game one on Thursday night saw Johnstown come home with a 4-1 win over Maryland. Forward Stephen Kyrkostas registered three points (2G, 1A), and goaltender Matthew O'Donnell recorded the win in net by stopping 21/22.


GAME ONE STATS


Game two the following Friday saw Maryland responding to their previous night defeat. As they took home a 6-5 win over the Tomahawks. As the series would seek the final game, to see not only who wins the series, but as well as which team will be given the 2nd place spot in the division.


GAME TWO STATS


Game three ended up in a close race from start to finish. Each team scored one goal in each of the first two frames to make it 2-2 heading into the 3rd period. Looking like the game would see overtime, with 1:44 remaining in regulation, Jake Black (F) scored the game-winning-goal for the Tomahawks to take home the series, as well as the 3-2 win over the Black Bears. Pushing the Tomahawks into 2nd place in the East. Goaltender Dominik Wasik recorded the win, stopping 27/29.

LEAGUE RECOGNITION:


Congratulations to Tomahawks forward Jake Black on receiving East Star of the Week honors for this weeks

Bauer's Stars of the Week. The UConn commit continued his dominant play, and points streak this past three game series. Lighting the lamp five times, scoring once in game one, and registering twice in game's two and three. The rookie right handed shot now ranks first in the NAHL in goals.


Not only that, but the native Pomfret, Connecticut was a Runner-Up for the NAHL Forward of the Month, with his 10 goals and four assists performance during the 10 games played in February.


Stephen Kyrkostas (F) was also on the stars of the week list as an honorable mention. The Long Island native registered three goals and two assists during the Hawks three-gamer against the Black Bears.


Tyler DesRochers (D) was named as an honorable mention for Defenseman of the Month. As the native of Howell, New Jersey recorded 10 assists in 10 games throughout last month.
