Hawks Return Home, Look to Stay Hot Against Black Bears

After three weeks out on the road, the Tomahawks, for the first time since February 13th, are playing home hockey at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA. This Friday and Saturday, the Tomahawks will welcome back the Maryland Black Bears for a two-game series. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 pm on Friday, and 7 pm on Saturday.

This weekend at the War Memorial will host the 10th, and 11th matchup between the Tomahawks and Black Bears this season. The Tomahawks hold a 6-2-1-0 record against the Black Bears this season, leading the series in 2020-21. Maryland has a 3-4-2-0 record against the Hawks this season. The last time the two teams faced off was back on February 20th-21st. Johnstown would sweep the series on the road, with a pair of 5-3 and 2-1 wins against the Black Bears.

The Maryland Black Bears come into this series after being swept by the New Jersey Titans last Friday and Saturday. They would see a 5-2 loss in game one, following up with a 2-0 series sweep loss in game two. The Black Bears are currently running on a ten-game losing streak. Their last win was back on February 2nd, where the team defeated the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks at home 3-2.

The Tomahawks come into this series after sweeping the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks on the road. Game one would be a 4-1 win for the Tomahawks, followed up the following afternoon with a hard-fought 3-2 OT win to sweep the Jr. Hat Tricks and jump back into first place the East Division.

Former Tomahawks goaltending and assistant coach Nick Mish was named the new Head Coach of the Esmark Stars U15 AAA of the NAPHL. The Johnstown, PA native started his coaching with the Tomahawks in 2019-20. The next season he would be named an assistant coach with the Hawks. He also, in 2020-21, serves as the goaltending coach for the Esmark Stars 14U, 15U, 16U, and 18U AAA clubs.
