Chiefs Alumni John Bradley Earns 400th Head Coaching Win

Written By: David Nicoletti

Win number 399 for former Johnstown Chiefs goaltender John Bradley came on December 9th, following a 8-5 win that his Bishop McCort Crushers took home against the Central Cambria Red Devils at War Memorial Arena. In an attempt at win 400 five days later in the same building where Bradley once played, their opponents, the Westmont Hilltop Hilltoppers, spoiled the party, defeating McCort 7-4.

But all was calm on the night before Christmas Eve in Downtown Johnstown. As five years, eleven months, and nineteen days later, after gaining his 300th win behind the bench (January 4th, 2016, vs. Wheeling Catholic 6-5 in West Virginia), John Bradley earned his 400th career head coaching win with Bishop McCort. As his Crushers took home a 5-2 win over their longtime rivals, the Richland Rams.

Richland came out sticks blazing early into the contest. Registering the game's first four shots on goal. But it was Bishop McCort on their first shot of the game that got the game’s first goal. Freshman forward Brady Dolgas lit the lamp with Maverick Baker tallying the lone assist for McCort.

The Crushers then found themselves into some penalty trouble midway through the period, one occasion going down 5-on-3. Richland then capitalized with the power-play opportunity, as Tanner Pfiel gave it over to Gavin Lafferty, lighting the lamp for the Rams and tying the game up at 1-1 after one.

Rams goaltender Jonah Horner spent the majority of the second period making big saves for Richland, keeping the score tied. However the tables turned and McCort went on to score four goals past Horner. Goals were scored by Matthew Ribblett, Lukas Cascino, Brady Dolgas, and Brennan Karalfa. Cascino (2), Karalfa, Baker, Ribblett, Jack Esch, and Samuel Treager all tallied assists from the goals.

Going into the third period with McCort up 5-1, Richland was looking for some answers on how to spoil the party. They capitalized on another power-play opportunity late in the period, off the stick of Ty Stawarz with the assists from Aidan Thomas (Captain) and Connor Bethmann. After that, it was all she wrote, as McCort defeated Richland 5-2, and head coach John Bradley recorded his 400th win behind the McCort bench.

NAPHL 18U All-Star goalie Nikita Volski stopped 21/23 in his winning performance in net. A video tribute was played in honor of the former Boston University netminder’s 400th win. Sending the team and McCort fans home with a Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight.
